WestJet is embarking upon a transformative era, transitioning from a successful low-cost carrier (LCC) founded in 1996, to a global, full service network carrier with the delivery of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in 2020. In support of our global expansion and offering more affordable travel opportunities to all Canadians, WestJet has recently launched an ultra-low cost carrier (ULCC), Swoop, a wholly-owned subsidiary.
With approximately 14,000 ambitious WestJetters across WestJet mainline, Encore, WestJet Vacations, and Swoop the business continues to rapidly increase in complexity and scale. The velocity of change across all major functions has generated an acute focus on innovation, technology, and scaling our next adventure with a nimble, growth mindset. In 2012, WestJet launched our international community investment initiative, WestJet Live Different Builds organized in partnership with Canadian charity Live Different. A 10-day humanitarian trip to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Live Different Builds is a life-changing initiative where 50 WestJetters immerse themselves in the local community of Nuevo Renacer and build new homes for families living in extreme poverty.
